Martin Hall

My work is in education and training, founded on 40+ years of experience in universities in South Africa and the United Kingdom, from research associate to Vice-Chancellor. My focus now is online teaching and learning, secure digital credentialing, and the transformations in higher education driven by Artificial Intelligence.

I’m a Strategic Advisor to the Valenture Institute, a company dedicated to creating new opportunities through digital technologies. Through a long-term partnership with the University of Cape Town, we offer UCT Online High School, the most diverse school in South Africa, with over 4000 enrolled learners. I’m also a Non-Executive Director of Advanced Secure Technologies, a Cardiff-based company with a regional office in Cape Town that specialises in secure digital credentialing to ensure learners’ attainment records are protected from fraud and can be instantly verified.

I am an Emeritus Professor at the University of Cape Town and an Associate of the Allan Gray Centre for Values Based Leadership, Graduate School of Business. My research focuses on the governance of Artificial Intelligence in higher education, the opportunities AI offers to transform teaching and learning, and initiatives to develop ethical and inclusive alternatives to commercially driven AI models.
